These are the center of attraction of Rashtrapati Bhavan
It was the residence of the British Viceroy:* Rashtrapati Bhavan was the official residence of the first British Viceroy. It was built when it was decided in the year 1911 that the capital of India would be shifted from Calcutta to Delhi. It took 17 years to build the building. On 26 January 1950, it was promoted to the permanent institutions of the world’s largest democracy.
*340 rooms are built*: Rashtrapati Bhavan is four storeyed and has 340 rooms. About 45 lakh bricks were used to build Rashtrapati Bhavan. Apart from the building in Rashtrapati Bhavan, there is also the Mughal Garden and the residence of the employees. Rashtrapati Bhavan was built by architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens.
*Durbar Hall*: The Durbar Hall inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan has a 2-ton chandelier hanging at a height of 33 meters. During the British rule, the Durbar Hall was called the Throne Room.
*Central Dome:* The biggest identity of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is the Central Dome. It reminds of the historical Sanchi Stupa. This dome sits 55 feet above the four courts like the crown of the building.
*Design of bells in the pillars:* The design of bells is made in the pillars in Rashtrapati Bhavan. These are also called daily orders. The British used to believe that if the bells remained stable, the power would be stable and last for a long time. That’s why a large number of them were built here, but as soon as this building was built, the power of the British started to waver.
*Silver Throne:* There are statues of King George V and Queen Mary in the Marble Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan. There are portraits of former Viceroys and Governor Generals. There is also the silver throne used by the Maharani. A brass replica of the British crown has also been kept.
*Carpets of Ashoka Hall*: All kinds of big functions are held in Ashoka Hall. On its roof, not only the country but also the manners of the emperors of other countries can be seen. The ceiling of Ashoka Hall is the centerpiece of the colossal painting of Emperor Fateh Ali Shah of the Iranian Empire, around whom 22 princes are seen hunting. It is said that Led Willington had personally given the task of painting to famous Italian painter Tomasso Colonnello.
The carpets in Ashoka Hall were prepared after two years of hard work by 500 artisans.
Mughal Garden: The Mughal Garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan is spread over 15 acres which has always been a center of attraction for the people. There is a glimpse of both British and Islamic in the garden here. To make this garden, Edwin Lutyens also studied the Gardens of Jannat, the Mughal Gardens of Kashmir, and the gardens of the Raje Rajwads built during the medieval period of India and ancient Iran. The work of planting trees here started in 1928, which lasted for about a year.
