भारत में जन्मे तेज गेंदबाज सौरभ नेत्रवलकर ने सुपर ओवर में धैर्य बनाए रखा. अंत में 2022 टी20 विश्व कप की उपविजेता और 2009 की चैंपियन पाकिस्तान हार गई. बाबर आजम की पाकिस्तान का स्कोर तीन गेंद पर 5-0 था, जिसके बाद नेत्रवलकर ने इफ्तिखार अहमद को कुमार के हाथों डीप में शानदार कैच कराया. और जब आखिरी गेंद पर सात रन की जरूरत थी, तब शादाब खान छक्का नहीं लगा सके. इसके कारण दूसरे सुपर ओवर की जरूरत नहीं पड़ी. जीत के बाद अमेरिकी टीम और उनके घरेलू फैंस ने जबरदस्त जश्न मनाया.

संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के कप्तान मोनंक पटेल ने जीत के बाद कहा कि यह एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है. मोनंक ने खुद कप्तानी पारी खेली और शानदार 50 रन बनाए. इसकी मदद से ही उनकी टीम स्कोर बराबर करने में कामयाब रही. मोनंक ने आगे कहा कि हमारे लिए पाकिस्तान को हराना बहुत बड़ी बात है. हम पहली बार उनके खिलाफ खेल रहे थे. मुझे इस बात पर गर्व है कि हमने ऐसा खेला. पहली गेंद से लेकर आखिरी गेंद तक यह एक बेहतरीन टीम प्रयास था. इससे पहले पाकिस्तान की टीम टूर्नामेंट के अपने पहले मैच में 7 विकेट पर 159 रन ही बना सकी. बाएं हाथ के तेज गेंदबाज नेत्रवलकर ने 18 रन देकर 2 विकेट चटकाए.

पाकिस्तान की हो रही आलोचना

जीत की ओर बढ़ रही संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका की टीम उस समय हार के कगार पर पहुंच गई थी जब उसे पारी की अंतिम तीन गेंदों पर 12 रन की जरूरत थी. लेकिन कनाडा पर पहले ग्रुप मैच में जीत के हीरो रहे आरोन जोन्स ने हारिस राउफ की गेंद पर छक्का लगाया. फिर आखिरी गेंद पर नितीश कुमार ने चौका जड़ा और स्कोर बराबर कर लिया. पाकिस्तान की हार के बाद टीम की काफी आलोचना हो रही थी. मैच के दौरान खिलाड़ियों में तालमेल की कमी देखने को मिली.
