राजपरिवार के मरने वालों में दीपेंद्र के पिता राजा बीरेंद्र, माता रानी ऐश्वर्या और शाही परिवार के 7 अन्य सदस्य शामिल थे। परिवार के लोगों की हत्या के बाद दीपेंद्र ने खुद को भी गोली मार ली थी।
1 जून की रात राजमहल में एक भोज का आयोजन किया गया था, जिसमें कुछ चुनिंदा मेहमान ही मौजूद थे। इसी बीच नशे में धुत प्रिंस दीपेंद्र कमरे से बाहर आए और भोज में आए एक मेहमान से लड़ाई करने लगे। परिवार वालों ने बीच-बचाव करते हुए दीपेंद्र को अपने कमरे में भेज दिया। परिवार वालों को लगा कि दीपेंद्र कमरे में जाकर शांत हो जाएंगे, लेकिन अगले ही पल दीपेंद्र अपने साथ 3 बंदूकें लेकर कमरे से बाहर आए।
इससे पहले की कोई कुछ समझ पाता दीपेंद्र ने बंदूक से अंधाधुंध फायरिंग शुरू कर दी और कुछ ही मिनटों में अपने ही परिवार के 9 लोगों को मौत के घाट उतार दिया। पूरे हत्याकांड के बाद दीपेंद्र ने खुद को भी गोली मार ली। इस नृशंस हत्याकांड के बाद दीपेंद्र तीन दिन कोमा में रहे और 4 जून को उनकी मौत हो गई।

प्रिंस दीपेंद्र ने इंग्लैंड के एटन कॉलेज से पढ़ाई की थी। इस दौरान उनकी मुलाकात नेपाली नेता शमशेर जंग बहादुर राणा की बेटी देवयानी से हुई। कहा जाता है कि इंग्लैंड में ही दीपेंद्र और देवयानी एक दूसरे से प्यार करने लगे और शादी करना चाहते थे, लेकिन राजपरिवार इस रिश्ते के खिलाफ था।
महारानी चाहती थीं कि दीपेंद्र की शादी शाही परिवार में हो। जब दीपेंद्र ने अपनी पसंद से यानी देवयानी से शादी करने के लिए कहा तो महारानी नाराज हो गईं और साफ मना कर दिया। एक तरफ शादी को लेकर राजपरिवार और दीपेंद्र में दूरियां बढ़ने लगीं तो वहीं दूसरी ओर राजपरिवार से जुड़े फैसलों में भी दीपेंद्र की भागीदारी कम होने लगी। इससे दीपेंद्र की नाराजगी बढ़ने लगी जिसका अंजाम हत्याकांड के रूप में सामने आया।

महान वैज्ञानिक थॉमस अल्वा एडिसन को अपना पहला पेटेंट 1 जून 1869 को इलेक्ट्रिक वोट रिकॉर्डर के लिए मिला था। ये उनके साइंटिफिक करियर का पहला पेटेंट था। इस समय एडिसन की उम्र केवल 22 साल थी। इससे कुछ समय पहले ही उन्हें टेलीग्राफ ऑपेरटर की नौकरी से निकाला गया था। एडिसन अपने लिए कुछ काम की तलाश में थे तभी उन्होंने अखबारों में पढ़ा कि न्यूयॉर्क की स्टेट लेजिस्लेटर और वॉशिंगटन की सिटी काउंसिल के चुनावों के लिए ऑटोमैटिक बैलेट मशीन की तलाश की जा रही है। बस फिर क्या था, एडिसन काम पर लग गए।
पूरी दुनिया उन्हें इलेक्ट्रिक बल्ब के आविष्कार के लिए जानती है, लेकिन एडिसन मल्टी टैलेंटेड इंसान थे। फोनोग्राफ, कैमरा, टेलीफोन से लेकर बैटरी तक उन्हीं की देन है। 18 अक्टूबर 1931 को जब उनका निधन हुआ तब उनके नाम 1093 पेटेंट रजिस्टर्ड थे।

बॉलीवुड ऐक्ट्रेस नरगिस का जन्म
आज ही के दिन 1929 में एक्ट्रेस नरगिस का जन्म हुआ था। महज 6 साल की उम्र में बतौर बाल कलाकर उन्होंने फिल्मों में एंट्री ली। 40 और 60 के दशक के दौरान नरगिस ने राज कपूर के साथ कई फिल्मों में काम किया।
1957 में आई फिल्म ‘मदर इंडिया’ नरगिस के फिल्मी करियर में मील का पत्थर साबित हुई। इस फिल्म के लिए उन्हें बेस्ट एक्ट्रेस का फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड दिया गया। इसी फिल्म की शूटिंग के दौरान सुनील दत्त ने नरगिस को आग से बचाया था। कहा जाता है कि इस घटना के बाद नरगिस ने सुनील दत्त को अपना जीवन साथी चुन लिया।
शादी के बाद नरगिस ने फिल्मों में काम करना कम कर दिया। 1967 में आई फिल्म ‘रात और दिन’ के लिए उन्हें राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया। ये पहली बार था जब किसी अभिनेत्री को राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार दिया गया। वे राज्यसभा सदस्य भी रहीं और भारत सरकार ने उन्हें पद्मश्री सम्मान से भी नवाजा। कैंसर की वजह से नरगिस की 3 मई 1981 को मौत हो गई थी।
मर्लिन मुनरो का जन्म
आज ही के दिन1926 में हॉलीवुड एक्ट्रेस मर्लिन मुनरो का जन्म हुआ था। अनाथ आश्रम में पली-बढ़ी मर्लिन ने अपने पड़ोसी जेम्स डोगर्टी से शादी कर ली लेकिन दोनों का रिश्ता ज्यादा दिन चला नहीं और दोनों अलग हो गए।

सिर्फ 36 साल की उम्र में मुनरो अपने बेडरूम में मृत अवस्था में पाई गई थीं। उनकी मौत की वजह को लेकर अलग-अलग थ्योरी दी जाती हैं। ड्रग्स के ओवरडोज से लेकर हत्या और आत्महत्या तक को उनकी मौत की वजह बताया जाता है।
