पारे के ऊपर-नीचे होने का अर्थ
पारा चढ़ते-चढ़ते आदमी कभी-कभी पक्ष भी बदल देता है, सत्ता से विपक्ष में चला जाता है और कभी-कभी विपक्ष से सत्ता पक्ष में भी आ जाता है।
जेठ आते ही पारा की चर्चा शुरू हो जाती है। महंगाई की भांति जेठ में पारा नीचे गिरने का नाम नहीं लेता है, और जाड़े के दिनों में ऐसे नीचे गिरने लगता है जैसे नैतिकता। पारा देखने या छूने में, न ठोस है न ही द्रव, जरा सा हिला देने पर यह बिखर जाता है और थोड़ा ढलकाने पर सिमट जाता है, जैसे सांसद/विधायक के समूह ठोस बनकर सत्तापक्ष में चले जाते हैं, निराशा हाथ लगने पर द्रवित होकर विपक्ष में बह कर चले जाते हैं।
पारा का प्रयोग थर्मामीटर, रक्तचाप (बीपी) मापने वाली मशीन आदि में होता है और पारा जितना ऊपर भागता है, बीमारी उतनी ही जटिल समझी जाती है. यह तो हुई मशीन की बात. परंतु जब मनुष्य जब किसी बात को लेकर नाराज होता है, तो लोग यही कहते हैं कि बचकर रहो, आज उसका पारा चढ़ा हुआ है. श्रीमान जी का पारा चढ़ जाता है, तो वह तो किसी तरह अपने आप को नियंत्रित कर लेते हैं, पर यदि श्रीमती जी का पारा चढ़ जाए, तो वह बड़े तूफान का संकेत होता है और उसका शिकार श्रीमान जी से लेकर घर के बाल-बच्चे तक होते हैं.

बैरोमीटर के पारे को ऊपर-नीचे होते देख हम लोग हवा के दबाव का पूर्वानुमान लगाते हैं, पर मनुष्य के अंदर भी एक पारा है, जो ऊपर-नीचे होता रहता है. कुछ पारखी लोग मनुष्य के भीतर छिपे पारे के उतार-चढ़ाव को आसानी से भांप लेते हैं. यह बात अलग है कि पति और पत्नी जब एक-दूसरे को देखते हैं, तो दोनों का पारा चढ़ जाता है. मजेदार बात यह कि दोनों एक-दूसरे के पारे की ऊंचाई को आसानी से पढ़ लेते हैं कि कौन कितने दबाव में है और क्या चाहता है.
क्रिकेट में सामान्य रूप से दो पारियां खेली जाती हैं और टेस्ट मैच में चार पारियां होती हैं, परंतु मनुष्य को अपने जीवन में कई पारियां खेलनी पड़ती हैं. इन सारे पारा और पारियों के बीच एक बात सर्वविदित है कि मनुष्य के नैतिकता का पारा जितना नीचे जाता है, ऊपरी आय के हवा का दबाव उतना ही अधिक होता है.
