Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar offered pindaan rituals on his maiden visit in Vishnupad in Gaya on Friday.
A Fortnight Pitrapakchha Mela began on September 29 in Gaya in which lakhs of devotees are likely to come here to offer pindaan for the salvation of their ancestors and forefathers. Every year pilgrims from all parts of the country come to offer tarpan (pindaan) during the rainy season in the month of Aasin-Kartik (September-October). It is believed that by doing pindaan they will bring salvation to their deceased fathers. A story has it that lord Rama with Sita and Lakshman had come to offer tarpan (Pindaan) for his father Dasharath and continue to be an important Hindu pilgrimage site. Vice – President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife Sudesh Dhankhar performed ‘Pindaan’ at Vishnupad, Falgu and the Akshaya vat on their maiden visit to Gaya. Bihar governor Rajendra Vishwanth Arlenkar, State Agriculture minister Kumar Sarbajjit welcomed the Vice president at Gaya airport. .
Gaya Commissioner Mayank Warwade and Gaya DM Tyagrajan SM and IG police Kchhatrani Singh were also present. Upon reaching Gaya, Vice President reached Vishnupad,a sanctum Sactorum of Vishnu where he offered prayers to lord Vishnu. Devotees from Russia and Ukraine are also expected to reach to offer pindaan.
